Pan American World Airways (Pan Am) PMDG’s 737-900 and 737-900ER
As requested, here is Pan Am’s “Global” Livery, presented for the 737-900 and 900ER. This one was probably my trickiest livery so far, so bear in mind I hope to improve it in future!
Pan Am was one of the best known names in aviation, and their branding is still well recognised today, over 30 years after the company dissolved, so this was a real pleasure to re-create for the flight sim community.
The requestor made a great choice – the “Globe” Livery, designed by Barnes and Forberg, and was displayed between 1958 and 1984. I’ve gone with the very original version, with the bare metal fuselage and black tipped nosecone. I’ve taken a few artistic (and essential technical liberties), and the modern engines and wings are displayed in grey, but the fuselage belly has a chrome/metallic appearance.
One of the most technically challenging parts of this livery was the “Clipper” names. I would love to be proven wrong, but I could not find any font recreations of this, so I’ve actually created this myself, combining images and editing a few fonts together – I’m relatively pleased with the result, and its such a classic part of the livery, I just could not upload without it. There were a few version of this on the real aircraft; I've gone with the non-Italic versions.
Pretending the -900 came a few years before it really did, I present two 1983 aircraft:
- 737-900 – N884PA “Clipper Phoenix Rising”, a corny little nod to Pan Am living on in the sim world.
- 737-900ER (BW & SSW) – N897PA “Clipper Echo Voyager” (Not a bad name for a virtual copy of a extended range aircraft…well I thought so anyway)
As always, I like a bit of silliness with the EFB wallpaper – fit for the 1980s.
Features:
- An adaptation of Pan Am’s Global Livery, for the 737-900 and ER, with accurate logos and colour scheme
- My own recreation of the classic ‘Clipper’ font, and two fictional for each aircraft.
- Complete with fictional FAA registration and airworthiness certificates.
Installation:
- Via the PMDG Operations Center, install via PTP
Additional:
- As mentioned above, a classic 1983 wallpaper and 2 icon files for PMDG's EFB tablet is included - should replace the originals in ...\Community\pmdg-aircraft-739\html_ui\Pages\VCockpit\Instruments\PMDGTablet\pmdg-737-900\Assets – don’t forget to make copies of the original files.
Your comments are always welcome, relatively new to the livery business so always hoping to improve, and if you like it then I'd be very grateful for your review. I hope it matches the expectations of the requestor!
If you notice any problems or issues, or have any suggestions, please feel free to PM me and I'll rectify it ASAP.
