Woolaston Airstrip in the Forest of Dean district of Gloucestershire.
Another one of those airstrips I found whilst looking around on maps that wasn't in the sim. Looked interesting and decided to give it a go. Not much out there about it apart from google earth imagery. Historical imagery shows the strip coming into existence at some point between 1999 and 2005. The runway's basically the same since then but there's been new hangars and whatnot built since. Also a car-boot sale seems to take place on the airfield occasionally as well.
GBM03 is the ICAO I assigned to this strip. The runway itself is quite fun, bit of a valley with either end being higher than the middle. It can make for some interesting landings, especially coming in from the south. The hangar is quite small and can just about squeeze in a Cessna 172, it's parking spot #1 so if you want to attempt to take off in anything larger please use parking spots #2 or #3! Outside of the airfield area I also applied a water polygon over a weird thin line of land cutting across the River Severn just up river a bit. Also added an asobo generic church model at St Andrews Church. It doesn't quite fit the real life Norman style church but it's better than the random non-church autogen that existed before.
LIBRARIES:
colinj's Object Library for the hangar and general clutter
Emerald Object Library for the hedgerows and more clutter
Bush & Backcountry Library for fences, gates, sheds, a windsock and more clutter.
Mikea.at - AssetPack for more clutter including the horsey trailer.
Ethnicfs vehicles library for some vehicles!
Vintage Aircraft collector library V 2 for a Mignet HM.14 'Flying Flea' that I decided will live in the hangar with one of Superspud's animated humans working on it.
Animated Human 3D Models Library for some animated life
Dave's 3D animals Library for a couple of horses.
NEARBY THINGS TO SEE AND DO:
Severn Bridges by bamboodia adds the two suspension bridges across the Severn, just downriver from here, that Microsobo couldn't be bothered to add.
Oldbury Nuclear Power Station by Flak is just across the river from Woolaston.
Some nearby airstips you can visit include: Filton Airfield and Almondsbury Heli base by OverripePuma. Bristol and Gloucestershire Gliding Club and Cotswold Gliding club by PhotosByKev. And there's Abergavenny if you want to venture deeper into Wales. There's three of them on this site so search for it and pick which one you fancy.
You could also fly to my other airfields in the region: Frogland Cross and Oldbury-on-Severn, you can do a nice little trip between all three!
Thanks for downloading and I hope you enjoy.
And a little preview video I made flying around the strip. I made some small changes since recording this video, mind.
