This is a modified flight_model and engine config file in order to replicate somewhat realistic flight behaviour.
The default flight characteristics of the Extra 330 LT is pretty unrealistic and ended up too sluggish, not responsive and slow. I aimed to fix some of these issues.
The improvements are:
More snappy behaviour for low control inputs with less "overshoot". More realistic roll rate (>370 deg/s). If continuous large inputs are given, it still overshoots considerably but i tried to find a middle ground between snappy and overshoot.
Can still do basic aerobatic maneuvers and rolls consistently with appropriate rudder inputs. Stalls, spins and hammerheads pretty nicely. Can do 4 point hesitation rolls somewhat more accurately and precisely than default. (Still needs practice and accurate rudder inputs)
Cruise performance more in line with published POH/PIM data for most power settings. Power settings above 80% tend to give slightly lesser cruise speeds.
More accurate drag characteristics to compensate for lack of propellor drag. This makes landing and takeoff distances more in line with POH data as there's considerably less floating.
Slightly decrease p factor and gyro precession so that you're not immediately perpendicular to the runway when the tail lifts on take-off.
Definitely not the most realistic representation but I think it handles so much better than the default version and I never really found a good enough mod for this aircraft so went ahead and did some tweaking of my own. First one ever, so a learning curve was established but i'll keep updating and tweaking in order to get the most of this aircraft.
Let me know what you guys think.
Installation:
- Please make a backup of your current flight_model.cfg and engines.cfg in case you need to revert to the original installation.
These can be found in your ...Packages/Official/OneStore/asobo-aircraft-e330/SimObjects/Airplanes/Asobo_E330 directory.
- Copy/Move the 2 cfg files into the same location and if asked to replace the files click yes (AFTER MAKING A BACKUP FIRST)
-Go ahead and test it out.
And yes, as i stated in the description, overshoot still exists but its more controlloable with opposite aileron and appropriate rudder inputs, (With full deflection on default FM, takes like 2 - 2.5 rotations to stabilize compared to half - 1 on mine).
Regarding power changes, its pretty apparent as well that better acceleration is present during T/O roll, cruise speed is higher and landings are significantly less floaty so I'm not really sure what's going on.
Can you make sure that you have actually updated the flight_model.cfg and engines.cfg files? Try opening one of them with notepad and see if some of the parameters have change.
